Part of Chef Marc Forgione’s Respect Hospitality Group, Trattoria One Fifth is the younger sibling to sister restaurants Peasant and Restaurant Marc Forgione. Like all of his restaurants, Trattoria One Fifth gives the same careful attention to ingredients and service, helping to make it one of NYC's best Italian restaurants.
History
Restaurants have been in near-continuous operation at this iconic New York City address since 1927 and we're happy to keep the tradition going.
At the end of WWII as the homecoming parade of troops marched down Fifth Avenue patrons of the Number One Bar in Greenwich Village toasted with martinis on the sidewalk.
For decades, the first floor of One Fifth has housed a restaurant. In the ’30s, there was the supper club, Number One Bar that launched the careers of Dorothy Lamour and Paul Lynde. In the early 70’s, restaurateur Patricia Murphy, opened a branch of her “Candlelight Restaurant” here. By 1976, George Schwarz and his wife, Kiki Kogelnik, opened One Fifth, where brothers Keith and Brian McNally worked before they went on to open the Odeon.
Throughout the ’90s, Alfred Portale, the celebrated chef of Gotham Bar & Grill, ran a seafood restaurant, named One Fifth Avenue. That was later followed by Vince and Linda, where Anthony Bourdain ran the kitchen. Otto Enoteca e Pizzeria opened in 2003 and was a mainstay in the neighborhood for close to 20 years.
Now Trattoria One Fifth, one of NYC's favorite Italian spots, proudly keeps the story going.
Menu
The food at Trattoria One Fifth draws influence from Chef Marc Forgione's family as well as time spent in Italy. Fresh pasta is made by hand in-house daily, including a gluten-free option. Chef Marc's special pizza dough, celebrated as some of the best in NYC, integrates the structure and crunch of a NY slice with the focus on technique and ingredients of Neapolitan style. Pasta and pizza share the spotlight with seasonal vegetables and entrees and an incredible dessert menu from Chef Jami Callao full of housemade gelatos and lots more.
